What to do when a power cut happens

What to do when a power cut happens

Northern Powergrid guidance on what to do in a power cut :-

We want all our communities to be prepared in case there is a power cut.

  • Do you, your friends and neighbours know how to or who to report a power cut?

Is there someone in your household or a neighbour you know that:

  • Is medically dependent on electrically powered equipment
  • has a serious illness or limited mobility
  • is of pensionable age
  • has children aged five or under
  • struggles with their mental health
  • has additional communication needs

We want to care for as many people in our communities as we can. We do this through our FREE Priority Services Membership (you may know it as the PSR).

By planning ahead and telling us a little bit about your circumstances we can know who may need a bit of extra help in the event of a power cut.

For those in most need we can provide:

  • A portable generator or battery pack which can keep equipment running if they are medically dependent
  • We've got relationships with home oxygen suppliers so could get back up oxygen delivered if needed
  • In addition to our own Customer Services Responder Team, our partner the British Red Cross, can help provide welfare visits and reassurance
  • We also have a Just Eat account which we can use to help organise free hot meals
  • A dedicated team who proactively reach out to customers during a power cut to make sure they are OK and see if they need any extra help.

Whilst we can't guarantee to be able to provide exactly what you need; we'll do all we can to help.

Please help us to help your community: I'veattached some easy read booklets and some power cut advice leaflets which provide additional information on our Priority Services Membership, and general advice on how to prepare in case there is a power cut.
